He is a Professor at the Department of Cinema, Radio and Television of the University of San Pablo and at the Postgraduate Program in Communications and Semiotics of the Universidad Pontificia de San Pablo. His research field covers technical images, i.e. images produced through various technological mediations, such as photography, cinema, video and the current digital and telematic media. Machado has published, among others, the books Eisenstein, geometría de Êxtase (Brasilense), A Ilussao Especular (Brasilense), A Arte do Video (Brasilense), and Máquina e Imaginário: o desafío das poéticas tecnológicas (EDUSP), as well as articles such as The Independient, Chimaera, Acta Poética, Leonardo.
