The LAA is a space dedicated to exhibiting, documenting, producing and researching artistic praxes that resort to and promote the dialogue between technology and the arts.

One of its unique characteristics is the production of works that are specially conceived for space, thus promoting the national and international artistic creation.

Its main interest is giving rise to a permanent dialogue between society and current artistic praxes.

The creation of the Fonoteca Nacional, first of its kind in Latin America, was based on a comprehensive model to safeguard and promote sound, a model expressing a State policy which specifically affects the value and preservation of the national sound heritage.

The Fonoteca Nacional, a live center for the promotion of the culture of sound, strengthens the preservation culture of the Mexican sound heritage through a vast offer of academic and cultural services and activities.

This space is dedicated to the experimentation, research, and dissemination of artistic-cultural praxes involving new technologies. Its tasks are:

• Disseminating academic and artistic activities, both national and international. • Supporting the training of artists and audiences interested in electronic art. • Encouraging debate and reflection on the different fields of knowledge related to the artistic-technological scene. • Developing a research dynamics that will produce new uses and tools for cultural creators and producers.

The Centro Nacional de las Artes (CENART) was founded by the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA) in November 1994. Its aim is to produce and explore new models and approaches to artistic education, research and dissemination; to promote interdisciplinary approaches to the arts; to encourage the use of new technologies in the arts; and to create spaces for the academic and artistic cooperation between institutions of different systems and levels in Mexico and abroad.

The Centro Nacional de las Artes is also a space for artistic creation and dissemination. It organizes festivals, shows and exhibits, both national and international, presenting the esthetic proposals of well-known artists. The Centro Nacional de las Artes has 22 venues, including the Aula Magna José Vasconcelos, the Teatro de las artes, the Teatro Salvador Novo, the Teatro Raúl Flores Canelo, the Foro Experimental, the Foro Antonio López Mancera, the Auditorio Blas Galindo, the Sala Luis Buñuel, the Plaza de las Artes, the Plaza de la Danza, the Plaza de la Música, the Foro de las Artes, the Galería Central, the Galería de Arte Electrónico Manuel Felguérez, green spaces, and seven multiple-use rooms.
